Welcome to Biodegradable Ipu Whenua (c) Carole Wheeler 2011
I have been asked to make a short video on how to make your own ipu. Please click here to view https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMqmSF9xXSM The cost of materials has gone up since I made the clip but it is easy and fun to do and still inexpensive.
Biodegradable Ipu Whenua is run by midwife Carole Wheeler out of Masterton, New Zealand, and is designed as a free, non-profit page designed to give all women the opportunity to create their own 100% biodegradable Ipu Whenua. An Ipu Whenua is a container made to house the placenta (whenua) following childbirth which is then returned to the earth. The container is buried and may even have new plants or a tree planted above it.
After starting to produce ipu in 2010/2011 I wanted to make the process of producing one available to all women. Whilst this website is designed as a teaching aid for others to learn and share, if anyone wants an ipu but is not able to make her own, my daughter runs a small business from home and will make and post one throughout New Zealand for $30 plus $10 North island or $15 South island postage. Mary's facebook page is: www.facebook.com/flaxfarewells or phone 0273353795
Thanks for visiting the webpage, please encourage others to view it and spread the biodegradable message at this special time in their family life.
